ANGEL WING VINEYARD

Our Story

Tall oak trees line the pasture lands and flood plains around the estate that is home to the vineyards of Angel Wing Winery.

A true boutique winery that is producing just about 900 cases of wine annually amid the vegetables, horse farms and pastureland of the Eastern Sacramento Valley.

The Angel Wing Farm is home to small blocks of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The thick-skinned wine grapes that do so well in this climate have been planted on this land since these most early settlers came.

Many came from Ireland between the years of the gold rush and the transcontinental railways. Some drove large herds of cattle all the way across the country to create one of the most prestigious cattle lands in early American history.

These farmers and ranchers, unlike the miners up in the Sierras, brought wives and children and built churches, schools and stores around these early settlements.  Tough and strong these Irish settlers created homesteads that would eventually become one of the most abundant and prosperous lands in America. A place where many descendants of these courageous settlers still call home.

The Irish were from all walks of life and with many talents and crafts and they planted vineyards, raised livestock, bred horses and other farm animals and also planted wine grapes in large measure.  These early and hard-won efforts are the enduring legacies that our Angel Wing Wines pay homage to.

We are the descendants of a golden time in the rich history of these lands. We grew up and around the legacies of our family ranch heritage brought here from a distance equally beautiful place in Ireland.

Among the gold in the American River, the wheat of Sacramento River Valley, the rich soils and orchards of the San Joaquin River Valley, and in the shadows of the Live Oaks, the wines that are grown here are the natural plantings of the people that live close to land.

For all those that gave their lives, to the Irish angels that cultivated this land and this way of life, plowing the hayfields, planting the fruit orchards, and tending and raising the cattle and horses, we are forever grateful.

Although very close to the Cosumnes River, this land is home to very warm summers, and there is very little fog or cloud coverage in this upper part of the valley. The grapes grown here are full bodied wines with a gentle earthiness that speaks of the Irish soul that is felt strongly in the river valley.

Drive in any direction off Jackson Road and you will see the legacy of these ranches that have been a source of generational pride for many decades.
